The System

Slugblaster uses a stripped-down version of the Forged in the Dark engine, modified to power looking cool, doing tricks, circuit-bending gear, getting sponsorships, getting in trouble, hoverboarding away from monsters, and fast-paced laser-fantasy action in general.

  • Punch the turbo on your signature device to build dice pools quickly by ticking off boost boxes.
  • Push your luck to try to earn Style Points with any action, adding a nose-grab to your jump over the acid flats, or saying something witty before punching a robot.
  • Avoid slams and other problems by just saying so and then gaining a trouble point. As trouble points build, so does the threat of serious, adventure-ending personal disaster. Dimensional peelback. A broken ankle. Bad news from home.
  • After each run you’ll get to “shop for scenes”, spending accumulated points to trigger interesting events and arcs for your character. You might spend two style to get invited to a party, or four style to gain a new special ability. You’ll spend trouble, too. One point to get yelled at by your dad, three to get your heart broken. You and your friends can also pool your points to unlock big team-based events such as sponsorships, run opportunities, and inter-crew drama.

What is Dwellers of the Bog?
Dwellers of the Bog is a Mörk Borg compatible campaign module and adventure sandbox. If is foretold that a Chosen one will arise and slay the dark lord. Make your prophecy, drawn the lands to be traversed, and discover if you can kill the dark god.

God-Killer Prophecy is a one-shot collaborative RPG played against the escalating threat of the dark god—represented by a deck of playing cards.

In the prologue you use cards to create a prophecy, and answer questions to create the the dark god, the chosen one and his companions.

Play in Chapters 1-6 is divided into two major phases: Auguries Phase and the Adventure Phase

Adventure Phase
You use two regular decks of playing cards. One a heroes deck, and one the dark gods deck. In each chapter you face at least two threats, where the heroes use their cards to overcome the dark gods deck.
The heroes lose card's as they face challenges and must get more cards into the hands of the chosen one so they can defeat the dark lord in the final confrontation.
While that is happening the dark god's deck also loses cards, but only the weakest, causing increasing tension.

Auguries Phase
The playing cards are first used to setup the prophecy. This is the first thing that shapes the story.
Then there are question prompts for each chapter that guides players to illustrate where they find themselves and who and what they must do. This then feeds into the challenges of the Adventure Phase.

I thought to myself one day -- "I want a one shot story-game with teeth." And then I thought, "if I am doing that it must be the high-fantasy epic that I loved to read." Thus, God-Killer Prophecy was born.

God-Killer Prophecy is drawing (illustrating) game where you forge a world and a legend together.

Key inspirations for the author/designer were the Belgariad series (David Eddings), the Sword of Shannara series (Terry Brooks) and The Dark is Rising Sequence (Susan Cooper).

Game design inspirations include Palanquin (Genesis of Legend Publishing), Vanagard (Pendelhaven Publishing) and The Quiet Year (Buried Without Ceremony).

The Setting


The world of AEGEAN is an ancient Greece that never existed – a mix of mythology and classical history. The gods visit the earth and converse with mortals, granting gifts of magic and life to some and fear and terror to others. Fearsome monsters roam the lands and seas making every journey an adventure. Strange creatures, some mortal, others half-divine, can be found in the wilderness. These centaurs, nymphs and tritons teach, harass or ignore humans as their whim takes them.


The polis—the city and its surrounding lands—is your home and where your loyalties lie. Your polis is a recently founded colony on the coasts of the Aegean Sea. The leader is called an arkhon, a democratically elected ruler after the Athenian fashion, rather than the hereditary king that many cities still use. The polis sits in a precarious position, between many similar neighbouring states who may wish to trade, ally or make war.


Your character fits somewhere in this world, between the capricious force of the gods, the wilderness and the structure of the polis and its ambitions.


The Game


The core philosophy of AEGEAN is the characters are capable heroes who can always succeed at the task at hand. Sometimes there may be a cost involved and it’s up to the player to decide how much they’re willing to pay for success.


The resolution mechanic uses a familiar D10 dice pool. Each die which rolls an 8+ is a success and the more successes you roll the better your achievement. 10’s can add a success or be saved for later as Resolve and failure can be mitigated by gaining Risk.


Risk measures the danger a character is in. It’s a combination of small scrapes and stresses which build up during an adventure. It is gained when a character suffers harm, either physically or emotionally, but can be taken voluntarily to gain successes on a skill check. When a character’s Risk passes their Endurance threshold they are in trouble. Now when they would gain Risk they gain a Wound instead. Risk is easy to remove while Wounds are long-lasting.


A game of mythic heroes involving interactions with the gods wouldn’t be complete without some rules to manage those interactions.


A character’s fame throughout the world is represented by Glory. It is gained by performing heroic deeds and completing epic quests and can be used to purchase powerful talents. Spending Glory needs to be balanced with the character’s Hubris.


Hubris is a measure of a character’s contempt or disdain for the gods and their place in society. Characters gain Hubris by acting in ways which displease the gods, challenge the gods, or by acting above their station.


If a character’s Hubris is greater than their Glory then they have angered the gods and are Cursed. The form the gods’ anger takes depends on how much greater their Hubris is but, importantly, the gods are prepared to let a Cursed character die, if such is their fate.
